Eye Opening Stories About Jay Z That Might Shock You

Jay Z is living the dream now, but he wasn’t always a millionaire 600 times over, a doting dad, or Beyoncé’s main man. In fact, based on what we’ve heard from this source and that, the rapper has a lot of skeletons. Here are a few shady stories about Hova we hope aren’t true.

In 1999, Jay Z stabbed music producer Lance “Un” Rivera at a record release party. For the longest time, it was rumored that the altercation was over Uns alleged leaking Jay Z’s album Vol. 3: The Life and Times of S. Carter. However, many feel the violence truly stemmed from Jay Z’s feelings for rapper Charli Baltimore, the Notorious B.I.G.’s ex-girlfriend.

Fellow rapper Cam’ron recently supported the latter theory in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid. “This was all over Charli Baltimore,” Cam’ron said. “I’m not going to get into the details of what happened and why..Jay liked Charli at one time…Un and Jay s**t: they can say a song leaked or whatever but it was over Charli Baltimore.”

If you thought Blue Ivy was Jay Z’s only kid, you may be mistaken, but no one’s really sure. The rapper has been embroiled in a paternity case regarding a young man named Rymir Satterthrwaite whose mother, Wanda, reportedly dated Jay Z in the ’90s. According to Radar Online, Satterthwaite, through his legal guardian, filed a civil lawsuit in December 2014 accusing Jay Z of manipulating the legal system to avoid a paternity test.

Satterthrwaite isn’t alone. In 2011, a man named Jerald Andrews initially claimed that DNA tests proved Jay Z fathered a son with Trinidadian model Shenelle Scott, but Andrews later claimed he knew nothing about a paternity test. The National Enquirer reported that Jay Z paid $1 million to keep his name off the child’s birth certificate, but Jay Z has never admitted to any children out of wedlock.

Jay Z’s collaboration with R. Kelly, The Best of Both Worlds, was released in 2002—right around the time Kelly was accused of committing statutory rape. The Chicago Tribune reported that Jay Z quickly distanced himself from the project, but the pair still had to tour together two years later. The subsequent tour was a disaster and some suggested Jay Z’s camp was deliberating sabotaging it.

During a show in St. Louis, Kelly allegedly assaulted a lighting director, then “left the stage and went to McDonald’s, where he worked the drive-thru window,” the Tribune said. Several concerts were canceled, and the duo’s concert at Madison Square Garden in October 2004 went down in infamy. Kelly reportedly stopped 10 minutes into his set, claiming someone pointed a gun at him, then he went to his dressing room to calm down for about 20 minutes. When Kelly attempted to return to the stage, he he was reportedly pepper-sprayed by a friend of Jay Z’s. .

“Jay Z claimed to have no prior knowledge of the attack on Kelly,” said The Chicago Tribune , “for which his friend Tyran ”Ty Ty’ Smith was arrested. The promoter kicked Kelly off the tour for what would be called ‘unsafe and unpredictable behavior.’ Smith pled guilty to disorderly conduct, and Kelly and Jay Z filed multiple lawsuits against each other.” Whatever happened during that tour, it certainly wasn’t the best of anything.
