Jay-Z is teaming up with his pal Chris Martin and Coldplay for a spectacular New Year’s Eve show in Las Vegas.

The rapper and the British rockers have signed a multimillion-dollar deal to play at the opening of the new Cosmopolitan resort in Sin City on Dec. 31, according to the New York Post.

The two acts will perform separately and then team up for a joint set at the end of the invite-only event, masterminded by party planner Colin Cowie.

“Organizers have spent millions securing the acts,” a source told the Post. “The word is that Beyoncé is now looking for a Vegas New Year’s gig, so she will be in town with Jay.”

Kanye West was supposed to have the remix to “Power” done last Friday — at least, that’s what he told Angie Martinez last Thursday on WQHT Hot 97 — but the day passed without a link to download or stream in sight. Then the weekend came, and it was revealed he was applying the track’s finishing touches and as proof, tweeted a picture of himself with producer Swizz Beatz (who assists on the remix’s production), Mos Def, and (randomly) Kobe Bryant in the studio.

Finally, one week later, West tweeted out a link early this morning at 1 a.m. EST, and from the moment the song begins, it is obvious the extra care and time West took was put to good use.

JAY-Z SUES BASEBALL PLAYER DAVID ORTIZ OVER THE NAME OF HIS CLUB 40/40

Jay-Z has sued Red Sox Baseball Player David Oritz over the name 40/40. The story goes that Ortiz opened up a club named Forty Forty. Jay-Z claims that this has caused market confusion and that Oritz had infringed on his name. Knowing full well what he was doing as Oritz had been a patron of Jay-Z’s club on several occasions. The term 40/40 comes from baseball referring to the read of hitting 40 homeruns and stealing 40 bases in one season.

I don’t now what Oritz was thinking with this one. So far he has declined to comment. He may have thought the names were different enough that it wouldn’t be an issue. He can’t claim ignorance if there is proof he attended one of Jay-Z’s clubs. It’s a great name for both of these guys considering that Jay-Z has a connection to baseball and Oritz plays the sport. But what matters is who came first and that’s how the court is going to see it too.

Infringement is a crime. People wouldn’t enter into the market if they feel that anyone could take their ideas. Jay-Z has a valid point that Forty Forty could be mistaken in the market for being one of his clubs and he has the right to protect that image that he has built. I think the real question here is if it was intentional on the part of David Oritz and how strong a penalty the judge will enforce.

I leave it to you guys, was it intentional? Jay-Z is asking for 5 million dollars in damages and for David Oritz to give up the name. Is this a fair penalty? Will it dissuade others from infringing in the future?
